According to Dr. Mukesh Pandey – spine surgeon Delhi, the following factors should be considered as the risk factors enhancing the possibility of developing a brain tumor:
- Heredity: Certain types of brain tumors travel through generations. So, if a person has a history of this devil in their bloodline the chances of them developing one in the future increases. The good news here is that it’s not very common but one cannot completely deny genetic inheritance.
- Exposure to rays: Prolonged exposure to radiation can cause brain tumors. These rays can be from radiation therapy, X-rays, and CT scans. Not to forget the radiation we are everyday exposed to like power lines, mobile phones, and cell phone towers. Also, the rays from nuclear plants can cause brain tumors.
- Obesity: Like many other diseases obesity here too plays a crucial role in being a culprit of brain tumor.
- Already a Patient: Even in the past if one had cancers like leukemia the risk of developing a brain tumor in the future increases.
- Age and Race: Though it affects people of all ages still the chance of developing one increases with age. It is also observed that compared to Asians or Africans, Caucasians are at a larger risk for brain cancer.
- Chemicals: Certain chemicals are harmful when present in our surroundings such substances are called carcinogens. Example coal tar volatiles, tobacco smoke, arsenic compounds, cadmium compounds, nickel compounds, etc.
